Often known as Shell, the actual company named Royal Dutch Shell is a public limited company and the largest in the oil and gas industry, in terms of revenue. Founded in 1907, Royal Dutch Shell has its headquarters in the Netherlands, and is one of the six majors enterprises of the oil and gas industry. It is also one of the most valuable public corporations in the world in terms of market capitalisation – ranking eighth in the world in 2011.
It topped the 2013 Fortune Global 500 chart as the largest company of the world and accounted for 84 percent of the Netherlands’ GDP. The scope of the company extends to exploration, production and refining of oil and gas as well as power generation, trading, distribution and marketing of petrochemicals.
Shell also works with bio-fuels and currently operates from more than 44,000 service stations across 90+ countries around the globe.
