The Russia based company, Lukoil, is widely acknowledged as the second largest oil and natural gas producer and distributor within the country. As per statistics from a 2012 study, the company is said to have generated just under 90 million tons of oil. The company has its headquarters in Moscow, and is second only to ExxonMobil, with regard to natural gas and oil reserves, making up 1.3 percent of global reserves. Currently, the company has operations in over 40 different countries across the world.
Lukoil was originally founded in 1991, when a number of smaller oil and gas companies became consolidated. The company primarily deals with the production and sale of oil and lubricants, and is particularly known for its stringent quality control measures. Currently, over 40 percent of all oil-based, petrochemical lubricants in Russia are supplied by Lukoil. The company made history in 1994 when it became the first company to issue a share offering on the -then brand new- Russian Stock Exchange.
