GDF Suez is a French enterprise founded in July 2008. Since its inception, the company has grown to become a leader in the electric utilities industry, with laterals relating the generation and distribution of electricity, renewable energy and natural gas production. The company itself came about as a result of a massive merger between Gaz De France and Suez. Since the recent merger, the French government is said to hold in excess of a 35 percent of stake in the company.
Apart from its electricity and natural gas activities, GDF Suez also has a significant stake in a company known as Suez Environnement, which focuses on waste management, and sustainable water treatment initiatives. 2010 figures indicate that GDF Suez had a total employee workforce of approximately 236,000, achieving revenue figures of 84.5 billion Euros. The company places an immense focus on tackling environmental and energy-related issues in sustainable ways.
